Fishing Guidelines & Weigh-In Details

Fishing Guidelines

  • Allowed fishing methods: Baitcasting, Jigging, Casting, and Trolling.
  • Net fishing and spear fishing are strictly prohibited.
  • Fishing is permitted only during the approved timeframe.
  • Endangered or protected species, as defined by the Maldivian Ministry of Fisheries, must not be caught or submitted.
  • Minimum size for fish to be valid: 8 inches in length.
  • Participants must comply with local and national fishing laws and practice ethical, sustainable fishing.

Weigh-In & Scoring

  • All fish must be submitted and weighed at the official base before 10:30 PM.
  • The winning team will be determined by the total number of valid fish caught.
  • Fish shorter than 8 inches will not be counted.
  • Weighing will be supervised by the official judging panel.
  • In the event of a tie:
    • The team with the heaviest single fish will win.
    • If still tied, the team that returns to base earlier will be declared the winner.

Event Day Schedule – Villa Masrace 2025

Date: Friday, 20th June 2025

Reporting Location: Hakatha Warehouse (near Treetop)

2:00 PM – Official Opening & Registration

  • All teams must report to the registration desk at Hakatha Warehouse (near Treetop).
  • After registration:
    • Each team will receive a case of water.
    • One event official will accompany each team to inspect the dhaoni before departure.
  • Teams may depart for fishing immediately after the inspection is completed.

Fishing Period

  • Fishing begins after official inspection and departure.
  • All fishing must take place within the designated area and in accordance with all competition rules.

10:30 PM – Final Return Deadline

  • All teams must return to the base area by 10:30 PM sharp.
  • Fish submissions must be made before 10:30 PM.
  • Any team arriving after 10:30 PM will be disqualified, regardless of their catch.
